Traditional Technology Day at the Cat...

Description

Enjoy the Refuge with the whole family as you join us for a day of art, culture, games and demonstrations of traditional technology brought to you by the First Peoples of this area. Get a tour of a Chinookan-style Plankhouse modeled after Cathlapotle, one of the many villages that thrived close by along the Columbia River. Watch art, fire making, and flintknapping demonstrations with local tribal members and artisans. Get a tour of our trails and learn traditional uses of local plants, or go on an interactive family walk to explore Refuge trails. Let your kids try their hand at art and craft activities using materials found right here on the Refuge. Even do a tour of the Refuge by car to see what creatures might be out and about enjoying a rare cool day in August! 12-4 Plankhouse Open 12:30 to 1:30 Ethnobotany Hike 2:00 to 3:00 Family Nature Hike Inside the Plankhouse: Tours and demonstrations including cordage, fiber, art, fire, and flintknapping.
