Vancouver School District Patron Tour

Description

Superintendent John Erickson extends an invitation for community members to attend a Vancouver School District patron tour of Skyview High School and Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 from 8:15 AM to 1 PM. The tour will begin at the Center for Educational Leadership (2921 Falk Road adjacent to Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School). The superintendent will greet guests and talk about school district challenges, goals and initiatives. Patrons then will board buses and travel to Skyview and Sarah J. Anderson schools where they will see how these educational facilities are serving students, teachers and staff, parents and the greater community. Opened in 1997, Skyview High School received prestigious design awards from the American Association of School Administrators, the American Institute of Architects, and the Council of Educational Facility Planners International. Skyview features a rigorous academic magnet program for science, mathematics and technology as well as a national award-winning music program. Sarah J. Anderson Elementary is the first school in Southwest Washington offering a dual language program. Spanish-English immersion classes are offered in kindergarten and first-grade classes to teach students to become bilingual and bi-literate in both languages by the end of their elementary years. The new Sarah J. Anderson Elementary is nestled in a residential area of northeast Hazel Dell. Opened in 2004, this new building honors the tradition of schools that have stood at this site in the past, but with its flexible spaces, computer technology, and highly functional areas for community use, this is definitely a school for the future. In partnership with Vancouver School District, Head Start operates a classroom to serve preschool-age children from the surrounding area. Upon returning to the Center for Educational Leadership, patrons will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared and served by students in the Culinary Arts program. The cost for this meal will be $4.00.
