Community members are invited to attend a special patron tour of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics on Thursday, November 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. The tour will begin and end at VSAA located at 3101 Main Street, Vancouver, WA. VSAA was named a "No Child Left Behind" Blue Ribbon School for 2005 by the U.S. Department of Education. Receiving the Blue Ribbon School Award identifies this school as a national model of excellence. This program of choice opened in 1996 for students in grades 6-12. It is housed in the former Shumway Middle School. Originally constructed in 1929, the building was partially renovated for re-use as a magnet school. The school attracts students who want to learn academic subjects through art-based projects and performances. Beginning through advanced levels of six art forms are offered: dance, music, theater, literary arts, visual arts, and moving image arts, as well as foreign language. To register, please call Denisse Haney at 313-2705 or register online at www.vansd.org.
